Console

System > Console opens a terminal on your WPSD device, in the browser: a shell for anything the pages don’t cover.

The Console logs in over SSH on the WPSD device itself, with no password to type. It needs SSH on: if it’s off, the page offers Turn SSH on. Turning SSH on also lets SSH clients on your network log in, as set in Security.

Each login, here or over SSH, starts with a summary of the WPSD device: its release, station and profile, whether the radio is running, the modem and frequencies, the network, health, and updates. Anything that needs you shows in amber or red.

Editing the radio programs’ settings files by hand doesn’t work and isn’t supported: WPSD writes them from its own settings and replaces your changes. Use the dashboard; for settings it has no page for, use Custom Settings.

  • Ctrl+Shift+C copies the selection; Ctrl+Shift+V pastes.

  • sudo asks for the owner password.

  • Choose the color scheme and text size at the top.

If the session ends (you typed exit, or the connection dropped), choose Reconnect. Logging out of the dashboard closes the Console too.

Warning

When the dashboard is on plain HTTP, what you type in the Console, sudo passwords included, crosses your network unencrypted, as the dashboard login does. The page marks this Not encrypted.

Caution

The Console gives you the whole system. Settings you change by editing files are overwritten by WPSD Palisade: it writes the radio programs’ configuration from its own settings. Make changes in the pages, or in Custom Settings.
