Troubleshooting

Something isn’t working, and you want it fixed. Start here.

Important

The logs almost always say what’s wrong. Every program on your WPSD device logs what it does, and System > Logs shows those logs live (see Logs). Most problems can be solved in a minute by reading the log of the program involved, and it’s the first thing anyone helping you will ask for.

Where to look first

  1. The dashboard’s side panel. Radio Status says whether the WPSD device can talk to its modem; Modes & Networks shows each mode as Idle, Linked, Partial or Failed (see The Dashboard). That tells you whether the trouble is between your radio and the WPSD device, or between the WPSD device and a network.

  2. The log of the program involved. Your radio and the modem: MMDVM-Host. A network: that mode’s gateway, such as DMR Gateway. The table in Logs lists them all.

  3. Watch the log while it fails. Open the log, then do what fails (key up, link a reflector, change a talkgroup) and watch what’s logged at that moment.

  4. Read the line, not just the color. A timeout, a rejected password and an unknown talkgroup are different problems with different fixes.

  5. Look up the symptom in Common Symptoms.

Asking for help

If you’re still stuck, download the logs (Download the whole system log, for the last hour or day, in Logs) and bring them with you, with what you did and what happened. See Getting Help.
